Sexual Assault Prevention Policies

Fund Legal Services for Students in the OIE Sexual Assault Hearings

Ensure all students have access to a free attorney by funding the expansion of Student Legal Services. This decreases the trauma experienced by students from the University's current student sexual misconduct policy which mandates that cross-examination is done by personal advisors.

30 Minute Time Limitations on Cross-Examinations

Limit cross-examination to 30 minutes, while allowing for short extensions upon request if the hearing officer deems it necessary.

University Policy Transparency

Ensure that the website detailing the University policy on handling sexual assault cases is transparent to students, both in terms of what this process looks like and the requirements of both parties.

SAPAC Specialized Counseling

Fund SAPAC in offering in-person crisis counselors and free therapists who specialize in working with victims.

More SAPAC Student Advocates

Fund SAPAC in providing more advocates and allowing these advocates to more directly help victims navigate university services.

Ensure Sexual Assault Investigations are Independent

Work with SAPAC and club leadership to create a more independent and streamlined process tin handling sexual assault cases, so that true justice is being enacted for survivors and perpetrators won’t be able to reoffend on campus. This is in response to a recent Daily article regarding a student’s reporting of her sexual assault to the club’s leadership and their subsequent “investigation” which was dismissed and allowed the perpetrator to commit again.

Increase Blue Light Awareness on Campus

Make aware the location and purpose of the Blue Light Phones on campus which contact DPSS in the case of an emergency.

FSL Sexual Assault Trainings

Work with FSL in order to improve the trainings on sexual assault prevention to be more engaging and enforcable for atendance and participation. Ensure that the sorority and fraternity members have equal trainings that don’t discourage victims from drinking too much and becoming vulnerable but rather explicitly work to prevent sexual assault across the board.

Expand Sexual Assault Programs to Professional Fraternities

Expand the sexual assault prevention policies and resources that exist for social Greek Life to include professional fraternities in order to prevent sexual assault in all environments.

Survivor Inclusion Transparency

Work with the University to create central task forces concerning sexual misconduct which will each include students, faculty, and survivors; rather than having separate task forces for administrators, faculty, and students.
