Student Organization Policies

Expand Student Organizations Access to University Space

Expand the amount of University buildings and rooms accessible for student organization rental to at least half of all those available. Currently about one fourth of University space is accessible for student orgs, with the best spaces on campus often being reserved for non-students or alumni.

Lower Cost of University Space for Student Organizations

Work with the University to increase classrooms available for free use by student orgs by five times, and lower the cost of other rooms to $20, including larger rooms. Currently the University has 12 free rooms available to student orgs which must be booked a month in advance and are in high demand. Alternatively, student orgs can pay $35 to rent a fifteen person classroom that would otherwise be empty.

Centralized Room Rental System

Create a centralized system for all spaces on campus available for student organization rental and usage that encompasses every building and department.

Centralized Student Organization Funding Opportunities System

Create a centralized system for all of the funding opportunities, such as grants and sponsorships, that are available for student organization application.

Increase SOFC Funding

Increase the funding to our Student Organization Funding Committee (SOFC) from CSG to better meet the needs of student organizations as they often request five times more for their events and operations than what SOFC is able to give.

Structure Professional Fraternity Rush

Restructure the Greek Life rush process to include professional fraternities to provide students with a wider view of their options and an easier navigation system, and allowing professional fraternities to be better equipped in advertising themselves to potential new members.

Reform MaizePages

Work with CCI to create a formal list of active student organizations, and a process to maintain that all student orgs on MaizePages, the University’s student org database, are indeed active and have adequate and accurate information. Fix the website’s usability by working with students to decide the categories under which student orgs should be filed.

Reform the Status of the Men’s Rowing Team

Work with the Athletics Department to obtain formalized and permanent funding comparable to other division sports for the Men’s Rowing team. This team competes as a division sport but is recognized at the University as a club sport, therefore receiving very little funding and subsequently requiring their members to pay almost unaffordable dues.
